Verification Information

Each year, KU selects 2,000 to 3,000 FAFSA applications for verification. The U.S. Department of Education mandates this process to ensure that the information provided is correct.

If your application is selected for verification, you will receive a notification at your registered KU email address. Please print, complete, and submit to FAS the verification worksheet, signed copies of all applicable federal tax returns, W-2s, and 1099 forms. If you are a dependent student, you will need to provide your parents' or guardians’ signed federal tax returns, W-2s, and 1099 forms. Please do not submit tax documents unless requested by the FAS.

Verification may take up to four weeks after the FAS receives all required documentation. You will not be awarded federal, state, or institutional financial aid until the FAS has received and processed all required information and your financial aid file is complete.

Selection criteria for verification at KU are determined through data analysis as part of the annual Quality Assurance program. Every other year, in addition to those files selected for verification through regular selection criteria, a random sample of FAFSA’s are also selected for verification.
