How to apply for financial aid
March 1 is the priority date to file the FAFSA. Apply earlier if you can. After you have applied to KU and estimated your costs, follow these steps to apply for financial aid:
1. Create your KU email account
We will use this KU address for all official correspondence.
2. Get your PIN
You will need a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to electronically sign your FAFSA, correct your Student Aid Report, and monitor your federal loans. If you are a dependent student, a parent should also request a PIN, which can be used as their electronic signature on the FAFSA.
3. File the FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov
FAFSA applications are accepted between Jan. 1 and June 30, but file as soon as you can. File by March 1 to be considered for limited funding financial aid programs.
KU's federal school code is 001948.
4. Kansans: apply for state aid
Kansas residents may qualify for financial aid through the state (a $12 application fee is required). The priority deadline is May 1.
What's next?
After you've submitted your FAFSA, you'll receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) by email in 5 to 7 days if you supplied an email address; if not, you'll get it in the mail in 2 to 3 weeks.
